Emotional Culture Workshop

NUMBER OF PEOPLE: up to 30 people

LENGTH: 2.5 hours

AIM: To define the emotional culture of your team or organisation.

1. Set up

Pre workshop and on the day

  • A few days before the event send the group the Emotional Culture Deck how to video and the information about why emotion matters in the workplace

  • On the day of workshop – break the group up into groups of 5. We have smaller groups to create more intimate and meaningful conversations within the larger group

  • Give each person a deck for the workshop

2. Warm-up exercise (5mins)

The icebreaker

Before you begin the main part of the workshop you can 'prime the room' by getting people to do this exercise.

  1. Ask people to think about the previous week and what went well, what didn't go so well and how they felt last week.

  2. Get people to pick one back card (pleasant feeling) and one white card (unpleasant feeling) from the deck that best describes how they felt last week.

  3. Ask people to go around their group of 5 and share a 30 second story about why they felt each of those things – what caused them to experience that feeling, and what happened because they felt that way.

  4. Choose one or two people from the full group to share their stories

3. Lay the cards out
(5mins)

Show people how to lay the deck out

  1. You need people to lay the deck out using the For Employees (Gold steps) aspect of the deck

  2. Each person lays their deck out in front of them in full so they can see the bigger picture

4. My success relies on me feeling...

  1. At the end of step three, each individual should have five black cards that represent the things they need to feel at work to be successful.
